Risking My Bones
Words and Music by Donna Henschell

Should I keep silent and not speak my mind
When everyone's viewpoint is different than mine?
Should I sing out loud, against the crowd, even if they throw stones?
But the stones would hurt less than my conscience I guess
So I'm loosening my tongue and risking my bones.

We think we're so evolved, we think we've come so far
Put a man upon the moon, put a robot up on Mars
We've turned the act of war into some self-rightous art
We even built a bomb that we think is so damn smart
At times we're like barbarians, sometimes we act like fools
With our technological weapons and sophisticated tools
If we were more evolved our priorities would be
Food, shelter, education, welfare, and a world living in peace.

Violence begets violence, we've seen that before
So why are we knocking on that same door?
One door leads to peace, the other to war
Which one will we choose?

We think we know the answers, oh we think we know it all
We're the bullies of the school yard and we're just about to fall
We're too big for our britches, full of power, full of greed
If we're not careful someone's gonna knock us to our knees!
At times we're like barbarians, at times we act like fools
With our technological weapons and sophisticated tools
If we were more evolved our priorities would be
Clean air, fresh water on land and at sea, and a world living in peace.
