Peace Porridge
Words and Music by Donna Henschell, 2001

Peace porridge hot, peace porridge cold
Peace porridge in the pot, there is no bowl

It seems to me that it used to be
Words like love and joy and peace
Were good words.
But I bought me a flag with a peace sign on it
To wave on my car, but I was astonished
When a guy passed my by
Flipped me off and I
Felt like I wanted to cry.

What's this world coming to?
It's so absurd for "peace" to become a bad word.
Peace on earth, good will towards men
I heard some folks a caroling last Christmas
But every time I turned on the radio station
War war war is the song they were playin'
So I started to sing songs about peace
But no one would listen to me!

Peace porridge hot, peace porridge cold
Peace porridge in the pot, where is my bowl?

Now my flag is tattered and its edge is torn
From wind and weather and winter storm
And time ...
But it flew proud and it flew brave
Spreading its message with every wave
But I found it sad, folds turned their head
And its message just fell by the way.

Peace porridge hot, peace porridge cold
Peace porridge in the pot, bring me my bowl!
