Open Mic for Peace

Two years ago, we (Still on the Hill a.k.a. Mouthpeace) initiated an Open Mic for Peace every first Sunday of the month in our town of Fayetteville, AR. It was in response to Sept. 11th and our vengeful attack on Afghanistan.

It has turned into a permanent 1st Sunday Open Mic sponsored by the OMNI Center for Peace, Justice & Ecology. We hold it at their business location which is in the basement of a church called the Deep End Coffee House. The modest venue has a grand history, back in the 60's it was a happening place, Peter, Paul & Mary (among other well known music/activists) are said to have played there during the Vietnam war.

The most exciting thing about the Open Mic, is all the wonderful songs that have been written and shared as a result of it. This project has been such a success that we have produced a songbook/CD of the songs so that you can learn them yourself (or just enjoy them.) It's now available at CD Baby for purchase!

We tell you all this to hopefully inspire you to do something similar in your hometown. It is a great way to keep your community mobilized and focused on peace and issues that matter. Try it!!!
